Homeschool Bill "Held" in Senate Education Committee
Bill S1796 HELD—But Parents Were Disrespected in the Process
New Jersey voices were heard! Advocates from across the state communicated their opposition to bill S1796 via phone calls, emails & social media. Over 3,750 emails, in 24 hours, were sent to NJ lawmakers through our action campaign with our national partner Stand for Health Freedom! New Jersey families showed up in Trenton today- the power of grassroots activists is extraordinary!
The message? S1796 threatens homeschool freedom in NJ.
The bill was held (in New Jersey, when a bill is “held”, it means the bill is not advancing at that time—it’s essentially paused in the legislative process). But let’s be real—the way it was done was a slap in the face to every parent who showed up.
Senator Vin Gopal said the bill was being pulled “to talk with stakeholders.”
Except… the room was full of stakeholders: parents, educators, and advocates who rearranged their lives to be there.
No testimony allowed.
No real transparency.
No respect.
If you’re going to hold a bill:
Let people speak
Mark it “for discussion only”
Don’t announce it last-minute!
New Jersey, we showed up. The system tried to shut us out.
But we will not be silenced.Thank you to everyone who took action. We’re not done. We’re watching. Keep sharing the “Call to Action” so more NJ residents can take action!
